The Ex-Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria made the announcement following a visit to President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday to brief him on his mediation efforts in settling the neighbouring country's political issue.

His meeting with the leaders of the Niger coup follows the failure of representatives from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the African Union, and a top US ambassador.

According to Sanusi, the Niger dilemma cannot be solved by the government alone, and Nigerians and Nigeriens must be involved in the process.

"I came to brief him on the details of my discussions with Niger's leaders," he explained. We will continue to do everything we can to bring the two parties together in order to increase understanding.

"This is the time for public diplomacy; we cannot leave it to governments." All Nigerians, all Nigeriens, must be involved in order to find a solution that works for Africa, for Niger, for Nigeria, and for humanity."

"I was not dispatched by the government." Government authorities were aware that I was going, but I went on my own initiative, utilizing personal relationships, and I will continue to do my best. It is my responsibility as a leader to do that,"He said.

Meanwhile, ECOWAS leaders will gather on Thursday to discuss the problem in Niger, where military rulers have refused to transfer control or face military action.

"ECOWAS heads of state (will) hold another extraordinary summit on the political situation in the Republic of Niger," the 15-member bloc announced in its first official response after Niger violated a deadline to reinstate democratically elected President Mohamed Bazoum on Sunday.

The meeting will be held in Abuja, Nigeria, whose President currently serves as ECOWAS chairman.
