ASUU DETEST FEDERAL GOVERNMENT'S DECISION OVER UNIVERSITY COUNCILS







The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) condemned the federal government's move to dissolve university governing bodies across the country on Thursday. 

The union urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reverse his outrageous decision to dissolve the councils without finishing their terms of office.

Comrade Christopher Piwuna of the University of Jos, National Vice Chairman of ASUU, spoke while presenting a paper at an event honouring retiring lecturers at the Joseph Sarwuaan Tarka University Makurdi (JOSTUM), formerly known as the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi (FUAM), in Benue State. 


"It is wrong to dissolve governing councils and transfer our councils' powers to the Federal Ministry of Education or the National Universities Commission (NUC) without due recourse to university laws," Piwuna stated.

"It is also a disservice to the universities to allow a vacuum because mischievous vice chancellors and ministry officials could connive to ruin our universities if such brazen disregard for the laws establishing the universities is not checked.

  Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, former Vice President of Nigeria and Presidential candidate of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 elections, and Presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP), Engr.   A young boy 10 years, by name Ray Jordan, was being rushed to hospital with water intoxication after drinking six bottles in just one hour. Ray Jordan was rushed to Prisma Health Children's Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina, after suffering from water intoxication. The boy had been playing outside with his cousins during the hot weather and drank six bottles of water within an hour. Symptoms of water intoxication began to appear, including vomiting and loss of motor function. Doctors who examined him at the hospital discovered extremely low sodium levels in his blood, a condition that occurs when the kidneys can't handle excessive water intake. Ray's parents, Stacy and Jeff Jordan expressed their concern over their son's condition and described Ray's symptoms, stating that he appeared intoxicated, mentally impaired, and unable to control his head or arms. A TENNESSE WOMAN HAS BEEN CHARGED WITH A NUMBER OF DISTURBING OFFENCES, SUCH AS DOWNLOADING CHILD PORNOGRAPHY AND RECORDING HER DOG ENGAGING IN SEXUAL ACTS WITH HER

A woman from Tennessee has been charged with a number of disturbing offenses, including downloading child pornography and recording her dog engaging in sexual acts with her. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) filed a complaint about Stephanie Weir, 33, alerting Memphis Police to her alleged crimes, leading to her arrest on Tuesday.  When police carried out a search warrant as instructed by the NCMEC, they found the disturbing images as well as a video of Weir playing with her pet dog. The NCMEC had previously informed authorities that Weir had child pornography on an online cloud account. SHUT DOWN ENSUES: NLC BEGINS PROTEST

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has announced that its planned nationwide protest slated for August 2 (today) would commence at 7:30 am across the federation’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). News reports that the planned protest expresses the labour union’s displeasure over what it described as the unfavorable policies of the President Bola Tinubu-led government, especially the removal of fuel subsidy. The NLC Head of Information, Comrade Benson Upah, told journalists that workers and civil society organisations would converge at the Unity Fountain Abuja to start the protest while the state chapters will equally commence protest at the same time. Upah disclosed that NLC’s affiliate unions, through their state branches, have mobilised their members and are already for the protest.
